Hugh Smith wins Bronze All Around
 
Hugh Smith (Dartmouth, NS) tied Ontario’s Kevin Lytwyn for a 3rd place All Around in the Senior All-Around Finals at the Canadian Gymnastics Championships on Thursday evening in Kamloops, BC.  Hugh will compete in the Event Finals on Saturday afternoon. Liam Hawkins (Fall River, NS), also in the Senior category placed 10th All Around.  Nathan Gafuik (Alberta) was 1st with 89.55 points and Jackson Payne (Alberta) was 2nd with 84.35 points.
 
In the Men’s Open category, the Nova Scotia team consisting of David Kikuchi, Evan Cruz, Devin Mitchell, Stephan Saulnier, Cory Munroe and Jared Goad (Truro, NS), captured Bronze.  David Kikuchi was 1st on Pommels, tied for 1st on Parallel Bars, tied for 2nd on Floor and 3rd on Rings.  Evan Cruz captured 4th on Pommels, 9th on Parallel Bars and 10th All Around.  Devin Mitchell was 2nd on High Bar and 8th on Parallel Bars and Stephan Saulnier tied for 10th on Rings.  Cory Munroe (Sydney, NS) captured 8th on Floor in his first trip to the Nationals.
 
In National Youth Men, Stephen Clouter was 6th All Around.  After Day 1, he was first on High Bar, 2nd on Parallel Bars, 4th on rings and 5th on Pommels.  Finals are being held on Friday.  Padraec Robinson was 10th on Vault and Connor Coleman was tied for 11th on Pommels.
 
On the women’s side, Ellie Black competed in the Junior Division and finished 14th All Around.  She was 4th on Vault and tied for 9th on Beam.  She will also compete in the event finals on Saturday afternoon in Beam and Vault.   Paulina Miller had the highest finish in the women’s Open Division with a 9th place on Vault after the Team Event.  Paulina, Lauren Cavanagh, Madison Faulkner and Abby Murrin will all compete in Event Finals on Saturday. 
 
In Trampoline and Tumbling, Ian MacMullin was in 1st place after the preliminaries in the Open Division of Double Mini Trampoline and 6th in Novice 15+ Trampoline.  He competes in both finals on Friday.  Graham Killen (New Germany, NS) was 7th in Tumbling in the Men’s Novice 15+ category.
